Although the Belgian Congo descended into chaos after independence in 1960, the shortwave service of the new Republic of the Congo, Radiodiffusion Congolaise (formerly Radio Congo Belge), kept broadcasting and was widely heard. I sent them a taped report, and in March 1961 they replied with a nice letter, along with my tape, recorded over by English announcer Althea Campbell, who sent me greetings at the beginning of the tape and then recorded some Congolese music. Here is the recording, along with the letter and a photo of Ms. Campbell which was among several photos included in the package.
